date night

every few weeks i trade babysitting with another family dear to my childrens' hearts. truth be told, we occasionally go out with the baby, leaving the older four watching a movie under 11 and 9 year old supervision. but it isn't as relaxing or 'wheee, no kids' feeling as when you drop them at someone else's house, and drive away.
tonite the litigator and i had the kind of fun we had when we were dating. although he drew the line at PDA. he's so mature now. we went to the thrift and got some great books and made witty comments about the quality decorative items on display. we shopped the clearance rows at target. and (reality steps in) bought a giant barrel of TP. we visited a small bistro like restaurant and had the cheap soup with lots of bread, and a piece of cake to share. when we picked up the kids 3 hours later, i was so happy to see them. on the way home, they filled our ears with tales of playtime exploits, complaints of thirst, and when we stopped for gas we opened the windows, pumped up the base (oh yes, i grew up in the 80's) and sang loudly to 'seven', just to tease daddy. he secretly loves it, especially when i dance bee-gees style in the front seat. i think he loves it more than the kids do. then home, jammies, many trips in and out of bed, a few tears, and peace reigns. for a few  hours at least. i think i'll go and kiss their sweaty little heads.
