more fairy tale

i posted before about the 'fairy tale' of my marriage. i don't think i expressed exactly what i meant. you know that recent novel that has been judged as unrealistic because the 18 year old heroine just knows her dream man has arrived?
uh. that was me, 15 years ago. i consider it a fairy tale because when you know, you know. and while i can't claim it was love at first sight (apparently we saw each other occasionally as teenagers) it was love at first realization.
doesn't sound so romantic that way.
i was certain i wouldn't be married till my mid 20's, with a fascinating life and lots of traveling. i don't know how i planned to do all this, since i wasn't a particularly dedicated student or employee. then i met the litigator in the lobby at church one day and immediately felt a connection to him. i can still recall the feeling of warmth and being perplexed by it. a girl who shall not be named told me all about her fantastic date with him ( i had barely spoken 5 words to him at this point) and i was truly and inexplicably consumed with jealousy!
we were engaged about 2 weeks later. i can't remember much about that time. i was living the moments to see him again. and i knew what i really wanted was to wake up in the morning and see him sleeping next to me.
for the rest of my life.
what can be said about the man who has enriched my life for so many years? growing up was hard, but we did it together. (are we grown up yet?) i have always known that he would do whatever it takes to care for me and our children. when there is a dirty job to be done, he's there.

one of my favorite 80's songs (there are so many to choose from) comes to mind:
"in you i've found a story i want to keep hearing
in you i see all colors not just black or white
in you i find a reason and hope for all dreamers"
king, love and pride
this expresses it exactly. i don't believe fairy tales are easy. they're hard work! but that only makes the story more precious.
